Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician Program at Jacobs Medical Academy is a 60-hour training program offered in two flexible formats: a 12-week accelerated option or a 20-week standard option. The program combines 40 hours of fully online coursework with a required 20-hour pharmacy externship, providing students with both foundational knowledge and hands-on experience. Pharmacy Technicians play a vital role in healthcare by supporting medication preparation, distribution, and patient education. Students in this program learn how to assist with preparing and dispensing medications, process prescriptions, handle insurance billing, perform dosage calculations, and maintain accurate patient and medication records while following pharmacy law and regulations. The program also covers customer service and professional communication to ensure graduates are workforce ready. Upon completion, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT) exam. Required Pharmacy Externship

All Pharmacy Technician students, including hybrid and online students, are required to complete a 20-hour pharmacy externship.

Students are responsible for securing their own approved externship site. All required externship hours and documentation must be completed, submitted, and verified by Jacobs Medical Academy as part of the program requirements.

Students have the option to pay their remaining tuition balance in full on the first day of class or select one of our flexible tuition payment options.

$50 Admissions Fee

A $50 non-refundable Admissions Fee is required to complete the admissions and enrollment process. The full $50 Admissions Fee is paid online when submitting your application.

The Admissions Fee is separate from program tuition and does not apply toward your tuition deposit or tuition balance.

Tuition Deposit
A $350 tuition deposit is due at your scheduled enrollment appointment. The tuition deposit is applied toward your Pharmacy Technician program tuition.

When Tuition Payments Begin

Once your enrollment is complete, no additional enrollment deposit is required. Your first tuition payment is due on the Monday your class begins. Students enrolled in a tuition payment plan will begin their scheduled payments on this date.

Online Students: Your online student portal and coursework will open once your first tuition payment is successfully processed.

Students who choose to pay their tuition in full may pay their remaining tuition balance on the first day of class.

Additional Student Expenses

Program tuition covers tuition only. The following expenses are not included in the $3,719 program tuition.

Official JMA Scrub Uniform — $40

All students are required to purchase the official Jacobs Medical Academy scrub uniform through the school’s designated uniform provider to ensure a consistent, professional, and color-coordinated appearance.

The official JMA scrub uniform is required for applicable classes, externships, school meetings, graduation, graduation photoshoots, and other required on-campus activities.

NHA Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification Exam — $129

The NHA National Certification Exam is not included in program tuition. Students who successfully complete the program and meet applicable NHA eligibility requirements are responsible for the $129 certification exam fee.

NHA fees are established by NHA and are subject to change.

NHA Study Guide & Practice Test — $94

Students have the option to purchase the official NHA Study Guide and Practice Test directly through NHA for $94.

The NHA Study Guide and Practice Test are highly recommended as final preparation for the national certification exam and provide additional review and practice before testing.

These preparation materials are optional and are not included in program tuition.

Student Identification Badge

Each enrolled student receives one official Jacobs Medical Academy student identification badge at no additional charge.

Student identification badges must be worn and visible while on campus and during applicable school-related activities.

Students are not permitted on campus without their official JMA student identification badge. Students who arrive without their badge must leave campus or purchase a replacement badge before being permitted to remain on campus or participate in a scheduled activity.

Replacement Student Badge — $15

Certificate of Completion

Students who successfully complete all program requirements and satisfy their tuition obligation receive their original Jacobs Medical Academy Certificate of Completion at graduation.

Additional or Replacement Certificate of Completion — $25

Students requesting an additional or replacement Certificate of Completion after the original has been issued are responsible for a $25 fee.

Tuition Balance Requirements

Students may complete their program while making scheduled tuition payments. However, tuition must be paid in full before students are eligible to:

Be registered for the applicable NHA National Certification Exam
Participate in the Jacobs Medical Academy Graduation Ceremony
Participate in the professional Graduation Photoshoot
